My work derives from my physical relationship with my immediate environment, in particular the familiar rural landscape which surrounds me where I live, which can be comforting and claustrophobic.
By careful first-hand observation of the environment at certain times and places, I have attempted to interpret through oil paint, how the ever-changing light from time of day and climatic conditions produces the colours, textures and shapes that form the land and sky.
This is what has informed my memory from which I have attempted to produce some clearly articulated, convincing visual appearances. This can appeal to the senses of others and communicate something of my understanding of time and place and convey some significance of their own.
