Tidepool

My work Tidepool aims to explore the beach where I spent my summers in Ballybunion.
I named my exhibition Tidepool as it is a collective of memory just like how one finds material matter in a tidepool.  I look at a setting and deconstruct and explore it.
As well as the often overlooked natural matter details of a beach in particular sea shells, my work explores nostalgia and themes of romanticism.
Five generations of my family have spent summers on the “ladies beach’ in Ballybunion.
My work explores connection to place alongside connection to family.
The research process began by taking time to observe an already familiar environment but  this time in detail.
Exploring points of interest such as the caves, the cliff walk and of course the tidepools, as  well as investigating the beauty of the natural rock and sea.
My multi-disciplinary practice includes photography, video installation, photo etching and solar plate printmaking.  I have used all of these media in my  exploration of  the seaside.
