ስሪት - Sirīti – Texture
From a young age my parents have been very interested in travel and going to places off the beaten track. I was lucky enough to take an amazing trip to Ethiopia amongst other places which exposed me to many different types of dress, fabrics and textiles. This is my source of inspiration for my final collection. The collection is an amalgamation of colours and textures in reaction to my travel experiences. I love the clash but yet the harmony between different textiles made with different methods working together, an unexpected beauty. I tried to capture this beauty within my work, the mix match of different places filled with colour, never knowing what one will find around the corner when in a new place. This collection focuses particularly on hand woven pieces as well as printed textiles. All prints were originally drawn within my sketchbook, then transferred to digital format and then finally printed on fabric.
