The Republic of Ireland has been facing a unique challenge when it comes to historical landmarks. As they begin to age and deteriorate with time, therefore becoming a danger in some cases, what is the best course of action to take? This expository documentary examines what makes a landmark of history so significant and how the negative and positive aspects of putting effort into them can affect tourism and public use. Along with that, if a landmark is deemed important enough, how does preserving it compare to restoring it? While restoring one is often the choice for landmarks considered tourist attractions, a structure’s authenticity can come into question if rebuilt areas try to mimic its original style. Yet some believe that modern builds could distract from the history of the landmark itself. With various ideas of what to do, conversations and debates can often emerge as many individuals have their thoughts on what is best to do.
