Re-Wired

My collection is based on my Grandfather’s journey through Alzheimers. The aim of my collection is to show the disorienting thoughts that the disease can lead to and the spark of a memory that can occur with Alzheimers when music is introduced. Instruments that my Grandfather played and listened to were a source of inspiration for both spec and texture. I achieved the spec of the garments by use of pattern cutting skills. Texture was created using bungee cord and rivets, which represent the confusion in the brain. The pleated leather represents the music and movement of an accordion, while the glitter piping is a representation of the spark of a memory. Fabrics that I used in my collection included wools, satins, silks and leathers. Three of my looks are based on the time during which my Grandfather had Alzheimers, and the other three are a portrayal of the awakening of memories from the music.
