Not Just A Pipe

Where things gather and depart; pipes connect between places in and out, above and below.

In this body of work, Lorcan Heffernan explores pipes as sites and objects of change and transformation. This subject while often overlooked, leave traces of everyday narratives and peculiar arrangements of material/matter.

The artist documents the curious instances and imagery pipes make and draws inspiration from their potential,  past activity and circumstance.

Lorcan’s multidisciplinary art practice centres around the transformation of objects and sights found in the everyday. He approaches his subjects with an attention to agency, vitality, and memory.

Using a range of methodologies as modes of enquiry, he interprets and expresses curiosities encountered or imagined.

The materials and processes he employs, such as tinfoil and casting, afford a propensity to change, deriving digressive relations and representations. Through these means he attends to his subjects with and admiration and engagement with their mutability and uncertainties.
