Lily Christopher

The pipe dream act explores the concept of being a performer through a desirable lens. The artist describes the idea of being behind the curtain as unrealistic. The fuel for her withdrawal comes from personal objectifications in the current climate of the industry. The audio-visual work views classic, theatrical scenarios in a dreamlike state from one’s own perspective. The piece reflects on self-doubt in an atmosphere where freedom is to be expressed.
The work acts as a crossover of the artist’s theatre background and contemporary video practice. It moves as a surreal vision of her own wider dream of becoming a performer whilst tackling the crippling self-doubt and the, “realistic” restrictions put on herself, towards the industry at large. The work contemplates the physical objectifications of modern theatre/performance.
The artist’s work aims to navigate her own understanding and take on surrealistic visuals and values whilst combining them with personal or relevant subjects. Lily’s installations and video pieces take great inspiration from her strongest love of film, theatrics and storytelling.
