The rise of aesthetic culture and its impacts on young women

From the career obsessed ‘Girlboss’ to the current hyper-health conscious ‘That Girl’ trend, there is a persistent surge of trending aesthetics across social media platforms. These aesthetics promote an idealized portrayal of the female lifestyle. These trending aesthetics lack a definitive endpoint, are constantly evolving and promote the upholding of unattainable standards in regards to the idealized female lifestyle. This magazine delves into and dissects the rise of aesthetic culture on social media and its impact on young women. It scrutinizes how the proliferation of aesthetics have contributed to the demise of subcultures. The aim of the project is to shed light on the ongoing contemporary issue surrounding the perpetuation of unattainable standards in relation to the constantly changing idealized female lifestyle.
