gorgeprint

My work is a response to handmade, contemporary perspectives on production in consumer society. The meeting point of fine art methodologies and concepts surrounding consumerism have been a point of focus this semester, as well as finding a creative outlet in the juxtaposition of their cultural values.

I have found throughout my experience in LSAD, the majority of my work has been very process led. I have made it a point to challenge myself with the incorporation of new methodologies, equipment and software that best represent the concept I wish to convey.

For my degree show, I have decided to create a pop-up shop for the brand I now identify myself with, ‘gorgeprint’. I have taken inspiration from the notions of ‘culture-jamming’ and ‘detournement’ within creating and designing the packaging and branding of my pieces. By incorporating both of these techniques within my designs, I believe I have subverted the traditional expectations and norms of consumer society and created a new, alternative narrative that challenges these norms.
