Efflorescence

My graduate collection ‘Efflorescence’ captures my life up to this point in time. Shifting through the motions of childhood to adulthood, I play on the constantly fluctuating mindset, from naivety, confusion to acceptance. My aim was to create a collection of wearable separates that can be interchanged amongst one another and with its androgynous aesthetic most pieces in the collection are unisex. ‘Efflorescence’ displays the multitude of influences in my life that made me the woman I am today.

I have chosen to approach my collection from a point of sustainability. Throughout the collection I have incorporated recycled denim jeans, to create new innovative pieces. I have also used a lot of rectangular pattern pieces which minimises offcuts, and also using my scrap fabric as jacket stuffing or in my creative textures. My process of designing and making varies from pattern drafting to stand work. incorporating gathering and pleating to give volume and texture to my pieces. My fabric and colour choices are based on my love for mixing masculine and feminine elements in design, with a variety of satins, polycottons, recycled denims, corduroy, tulle and floral brocades.
