THE WAKING DREAM

The collection is inspired by my own personal experiences with the condition Sleep Paralysis. Throughout the process of designing and making the garments, I aimed to capture the emotional and physical stress the body and mind goes through during this brief and intense experience.

In order to emulate the tension that exists between the dominating masculine presence that consumes and paralyses the body momentarily it was important to focus on the cut an fall of tailored garments. In contrast to this notion I explored

the fit of the female form through cut and the use of feminine, softer fabrics. I brought these two ideas together by creating a shadowing effect with different shades of stitching to coincide with the captive suffocating experience.
