‘Smallpox has been eradicated from the world.’ – 1980
The year 1980 was marked by many important events, and it was also the year in which mankind made extraordinary progress in medical and finally eradicated the smallpox. Smallpox had terrorized humans for more than 3,500 years and in the 20th century alone had been responsible for 300 million deaths. Those who survived were usually left with scars.
To communicate the physical and mental desperation of the patients a combination of stains, a use of black with colour differential was used, where blue and yellow are the colour of smallpox virus itself. The war between the virus and mankind is always there and when we talk about another flu pandemic happening, it’s not a matter of if, but when.
