Primal Glamour
Primal Glamour is a womenswear A/W 2024 collection inspired by my love for the film King Kong. Originally released in 1933, it was remade in 2005 by Peter Jackson with Naomi Watts in the leading role of Ann Darrow. The film explores the relationship between Ann and King Kong and the mutual affection they have for each other. The story concludes with the iconic imagery of Kong and Ann atop the Empire State Building.
Shape inspiration comes from the gorilla and the paneled glass of the Empire State building. I was also inspired by the glamour of the 1930s evening wear in Hollywood. Satin and silk. I explored complex seaming and paneling as derived from architectural details of the empire state building. For colour I drew inspiration from the sepia tones of the 1933 original film infused with feminine peaches and pinks of the main female lead.
