Synthetic beauty is touted as perfection by the media and perpetuated by our peers.
My work explores the pressure to conform to a manipulated ideal of beauty. Reducing perfection to a universal standard, I make flowers using an identical making process. Drawing on the tradition of hand-made flowers within ceramic industry, I explore the subtle variations that emerge within this repetitive process and that make each individual flower uniquely beautiful.
Perfect does not necessarily mean beautiful. Real magnificence is found in the idiosyncrasies.
