‘The Red Line’ is about young people’s experience of the ‘Cost of Living’ and the Housing Crisis in Ireland. For this project, I conducted research with my peers.
I wanted to illustrate young peoples’ responses, and give voice to their concerns. I worked with Indian ink, oil pastels and watercolour paper. I utilised cartoon, childlike drawings to portray adult themes. My work features a main character who is a mirror of myself; a windswept, candid, chaotic individual who is struggling. I like combining analogue and digital processes, this allows me to strip back the noise and make my illustrations more impactful.
These issues really hit home, and can represent a grim future. However, I like to think that there is always hope around the corner.
