Desertion

I always look at old buildings, structures, art or even discarded objects, asking myself the question; “Whose hands are responsible for this?” I find it fascinating. Everywhere you look there are remnants of people, todays people and people long gone, left for us to wonder.

We are connected to each other in different ways, a connection through matter, through writing, through art and through structures – the things that are left behind by the people who walked here before us, whose hands graced the earth before us, leaving bits and pieces for us only to guess what kinds of lives they have lead, just as those who come after us will be left guessing what kinds of lives we lead. Whether it is tomorrow, yesterday, last year or last century, there will always be this connection through the generations of people.
