MAKTOOB

My own experience in North African culture became an inspiration for MAKTOOB collection, which led me to researching the Berber symbols. They can be found mainly in their body tattoos, jewelry, amulets and talismans. In my collection I aim to express the strength and beauty of Berber Warriors as well as their traditions.

Different symbols such as magic squares, eight pointed stars, other geometric figures which are used in order to deal with darker forces and curing illnesses inspired me to create hand-made embossed leather textures which are the key element of my collection. Long silhouettes and tailoring represent modesty and strength of Berber Warrior.

Berbers, also known as ‘Imazighen’ meaning ‘The Freeborn’, are descended from the pre-Arab inhabitants of North Africa.
