Own  1. To have (something) as one’s own: possess…
In the modern age of social media platforms and self-constructs, people are creating and managing different versions of themselves every day. For our work persona we use LinkedIn and for our scathing quick-witted self we use twitter amongst other
social media.
As an artist/designer I have an avid interest in deeply personal and somewhat confessional art. As a viewer, I love the thrill of being confronted with a brash and honest portrayal of a moment in an artist’s life through their work. I believe this unapologetic honesty allows a sense of empathy to blossom between the viewer
and the piece.
My work ‘own’ is an animated self-portrait. Built on the emotionally charged imagery of Sylvia Plath’s poetry and my own life experience, I am hoping to bring the viewer on a journey to explore the supposed ‘good’ and ‘bad’ sub-divions of the self. Through the dreamlike quality that my film possess’ I endeavour to capture the visuals of the ubiquitous experience of finding one’s own personal identity, while sharing my own personal experience with the viewer.
