Units of Self

In his theory of the Hierarchy of Needs, Abraham Maslow (Hoffman, 1988) outlines how we can achieve self-actualization. By satisfying our physiological needs such as food, water, sex and shelter, we move up through the levels to growth needs; knowledge, curiosity, predictability, esteem and aesthetics, to reach self-actualization. We transcend to something new and unimagined.

My forms explore how this theory translates into real life. We retrace our steps building on what we have learned, re-balancing to a solid place. We move forward again to create anew.

Incorporating crushed remnants of my prior work and that of others, I carry forward knowledge accumulated. My pieces trace the journey to the new, the unimagined.
