Exploring the effect plastic has on our health through plaster casting and installation

This short course is based on learning about conceptual contemporary art in the classroom and how it can enhance conceptual development of ideas and assist in developing literacy skills (visual, oral and written). It offers students the ability to apply their knowledge on conceptual contemporary art to their own practice through rich material experimentation and installation. The project aims to assist students in responding to these artists’ works and developing their ideas in their sketchbooks through annotated concept sketches. It offers students the experience of learning about the formal elements of sculpture through plaster casting. The project aims to assist students to manipulate plaster using a wide range of materials to best express their concepts. It allows students to create and exhibit their conceptual plaster forms which stems from thorough research and engagement in conceptual contemporary art in the form of sculpture and installation through concept development.
