I have long held a deep fascination with inner imagery – visions, hallucinations, dreams and psychedelic experiences. All of these things have a fleeting, incorporeal quality to them. As an Artist, my work then is about trying to make these experiences manifest in a physical environment.
This is achieved through the use of digital technology – computer synthesizers, framebuffers and video feedback, which all have a lineage associated with rendering non-objective imagery. They form a synthesis – a combination of components which form a connected whole.
The malleability of digital information lends to an expressivity with no bounds and allows imagery to be created from the ground up. Though very much an extension of human sensory capabilities, the technologies involved are not evident to the viewer and remain behind the curtain, unknowable. It is important to me to reveal that mystery in order to understand and convey the apparatus behind the work.
