Following the collapse of the Black Panther Party in 1969,
the Black community became subject to more abuse and
attacks from neighbouring communities and the police. As
a means of protecting the community, a group was formed
that eventually went by the name of The Crips. The Crips are
still to this day one of the largest, most violent street gangs
within the world, rooted primarily in Los Angeles, California.
Focussing on where it all started, this book follows the life of
Raymond Washington, the founder of The Crips, and his time
while in the street gang. Using experimental typography and
lettering, with a minimal colour palette directly associated to the
brand of the street gang, conveying the initial good intentions
and how they got twisted and distorted as time went on.
