'Time and Time Again’
‘Time and Time Again’, aims to give a voice to those whose voices cannot be heard and raise a widened awareness of the impact of sexual assault and rape. These works are heavily influenced by the world we live in today – a world where rape culture is still a prominent issue. A world where victim blaming is still viewed as acceptable by many, as a reason to excuse rapists and perpetrators of sexual assault. A world where a thong is accepted as consent. The use of contemporary materials, which consist of metallics, glitter and high intensity colours, is an attempt to confront society’s understandings and acceptance of rape culture and sexual assault. The re-appropriation of old master works depicting rape and the aftermath of such is a confrontation of the prominent existence of these issues in contemporary society, and a confrontation of societies inability to combat rape and sexual assault, making these centuries old works relevant to our society. The use of blind embossment is to contradict the whispers associated around sexual assault in order to achieve an understanding that this is something that should not be whispered about, but in fact, SHOUTED about.
