Irelands native woodlands are quietly disappearing is an eye-opening article by the Irish Times that tells the reader about the importance of preserving and rebuilding the native forests. While The Irish government is set to expand the woodlands, they mainly plant Sitka trees, which are not ideal for the environment, to reach their goal.
The solution is to plant native trees that agree with our natural environment. The Woodland League is requesting a law requiring landowners to plant 10 native trees within a five-mile radius for every tree felled. Moreover, they also have a campaign tailored towards school children called “Forest in a Box”. Each box can provide up to 200 healthy native trees every two years. When the government’s efforts are lacking, it is up to our youngest forest explorers to safe the woodlands.

The book explores the different trees and plants one might encounter on their forest excursion and gives children fun tasks to complete in the process. The illustration style is a mixture of European folk art, which gives it a bit more of a fun storybook feel, and botanical, scientific illustrations, to ensure accuracy for educational purposes. The experimentation with layout, typography, for each chapter, as well as interactive sections of the book make for a fun learning experience for young forest explorers.
