Dole Day

Dole Day was about making sense of my past. I was at rock bottom five years ago, but today I’m living good, and I’ve turned things around in a way that nobody could have predicted. The song tells that story, planting you, the listener, directly into my world with three distinct soundscapes. I recorded the vocal to a metronome and built the beat around it by extracting the melodies and rhythms from my voice. Most of the synths are actually short vowel sounds from my vocals which I looped and tuned. The electric guitar was played by Vadim Volodin, and during the live version I get everyone to stomp and clap along with the drums. The vocals are what I am proudest of, as I worked hard throughout the year to improve my timing, projection, clarity, and breath control to get this song sounding the way I wanted it to. I feel like through the various iterations of this song I have grown as an artist.
