These artworks were created as part of my research project ‘ To what extent can reflective practice aid students to make critical decisions about the development of their visual art project.’. This research project was conducted with First year students. The project was the students ‘representation of yourself or another done through objects alone’. The students composed a view that captures the essence of a person without the person present. These can be everyday items, items that are treasured by the subject or objects that symbolise their relationship to you or others.
This research project sought to assess the most appropriate methods to assist students in establishing their reflective practice. There is an emphasis placed on reflective practice in both junior cycle and senior cycle; This is evident in the statements of learning, key skills, and the strands and elements of the framework (Department of Education and Skills, 2016). Advancement in one’s work happens upon reflection. Reflection facilitates the questioning of perspectives and the investigation of new ideas, practices, and media. The establishment of a strong reflective practice can aid in the development of work both conceptually and aesthetically.
