Game Audio Sound Design-Alive Inc

The theme of this capstone project was the production of sound effects for a video game developed as part of a collaborative student project. The game, Alive Inc, is a co-op multiplayer FPS horror game with strong atmospheric and survival-horror elements. The primary objective of the project was to investigate how sound effects could improve the overall player experience by creating atmosphere, adding tension, and making gameplay more immersive and responsive. In modern video games, sound is a key element in communicating emotions, feedback from player actions, and environmental information, all of which help enhance the overall gameplay experience.

This project provided an opportunity to apply the knowledge gained from the practical aspects of audio design developed across several modules throughout the course. I worked as the sound designer alongside Chris Ward, who was responsible for composing the music for the game. My responsibilities included producing, recording, and editing sound effects (SFX), while the audio implementation within the game engine was carried out by the game developers.

The sound design for Alive Inc focused on building tension, immersion, and player engagement. Particular emphasis was placed on creating atmospheric environmental sounds, character movement audio, gunshots and monster sounds. These elements were designed to support the horror experience by increasing suspense and reinforcing the dark and threatening atmosphere of the game.
