“Home” is a short documentary conceived by Amerson Fortunato. It explores the multi-faced challenges behind the life of an immigrant in Ireland. It portrays the emotional journey that Sam De Oca, a 23 year old Philippine who moved to Ireland with his parents at the age of 12, “navigated” in order to be able to call Ireland his home.
Director’s Note:
I wanted to tell a story about something very close to me: migrating to a new country and dealing with becoming the minority and the “outsider” and the challenges of “building” a home away from home. I moved to Ireland in 2013 and I had to come to terms with homesickness and trying to fit into society.
Many of my friends who moved from South America to Europe around the same time as me, confronted similar struggles. Facing adversities and overcoming them helped us become the people we are today. “HOME” is inspired by all our experiences.
