Altar to the Fallacy of Perpetual Growth

Altar to the Fallacy of Pepetual Growth’ consists of a network of microcomputers which play back an audio-visual composition with a delay of three frames between each successive monitor. The video itself is a layered, experimental abstract film created from a wide range of sources, including footage and photographs which were captured over four years, alongside found video, audio, and sound material.
The piece reflects on the current state of the world, particularly the destructive ideology of perpetual economic growth. This drive for continuous expansion underpins many of the crises we face today. Increasingly, growth is no longer just material — it is manifested through data and communication. This obsession with growth harms us physically and mentally, while also accelerating environmental degradation. Ireland has become a global hub for data centers, a fact that influenced the conceptual development of this sculpture.
