Blath Atelier Cocktail Bar and Fragrance Retailer

Blath Atelier is located in the heart of Limerick City at the intersection of two major streets: O’Connell Street and Lower Glentworth Street. Formerly home to Bank of Ireland, the building still holds a prominent status. Built in the 1850s, it boasts historic features and showcases the beauty of Irish limestone, which contrasts the red brick façades of Limerick’s Georgian Quarter.
The adaptive reuse of this historic three-floor-over-basement building strives to create an innovative hub within the city. The building is home to Blath Atelier, a one-of-a-kind fragrance brand. The aim is to give focus and highlight the craft and skill of local artisans. Pre-existing fragrance brands are encouraged to collaborate, sharing ideas, and experiences all while creating bespoke fragrances under the Blath Atelier name. The brand serves as a way for smaller artisans to gain exposure and gives them the freedom to experiment with their craft. Established brands are to foster the idea of collaboration, increasing their brand recognition and sharing their knowledge with others.

Inspired by the intricate anatomy of the native bellflower, the interior scheme draws upon organic elegance and natural forms. The leaf veining is a metaphor for circulation pathways fluidly guiding the user through the space. The mesophyll layer (the leaf’s inner structure) fostered ideas of spatial planning – large circular masses located within each interior space, surrounded by smaller volumes were inspired by the arrangement of cells around the central nucleus. These masses serve as grounding elements for each space. This concept creates an inviting and sophisticated scheme, blending the beauty of a native flower with practical design applications
