Born Deep - Gámburin Upán
Born Deep – Gámburin Upán (ගැඹුරින් උපන්), meaning “born from the depths” in Sinhala, captures the emotional core of a phygital fusion of heritage, anatomy, and technology. This immersive collection explores the profound connections between culture, the human body, and digital evolution. Inspired by my Sri Lankan ancestry, it delves into the concept of roots—emotional, physical, and virtual—symbolizing emergence not only from the soil of my homeland but from the layered depths of memory, identity, and ancestral wisdom. It’s a journey of reconnection, balancing the past with the potential of a hybrid, evolving world.
Central to this collection is the bold visual language of Sri Lankan traditional masks. Known for their exaggerated forms, intricate patterns, and powerful storytelling, these masks influenced the silhouettes, textures, and compositions of the garments. They serve as symbolic bridges between tradition and innovation, reimagined for a digital future where craftsmanship meets computation.
My creative process is deeply technological. Using Clo3D, I digitally prototyped each garment, allowing for seamless experimentation with fit, drape, and motion—enhancing both sustainability and speed to market. Adobe Suite tools like Photoshop and Illustrator further enriched this work, enabling me to craft dynamic digital textures and storytelling assets that bring the collection to life across physical and digital platforms.
Born Deep is more than a runway show; it’s a digital experience. Each piece is designed for dual existence—tangible and wearable in real life, but also optimized for the metaverse as fashion NFTs. It’s a collection for collectors, gamers, and digital natives, offering a new way to express identity beyond fabric, into the cloud.
In the future of fashion, the lines between touch and code dissolve—where every thread lives both in your hands and across the metaverse.
Live Industry - Colonii Collaboration Project
For the Live Industry Project, I collaborated with Colonii, a cutting-edge brand known for its hyper-realistic digital avatars. I selected ANJA, a distinctive Colonii avatar, as my virtual client. Inspired by ANJA’s unique personality, character, vibe, and preferences, I designed a phygital collection tailored to its digital identity.
This process combined innovative digital tools and traditional craftsmanship. Using CLO3D, I digitally prototyped and animated each garment, allowing for seamless experimentation with fit, fabric, and motion. I then digitized the patterns through Gerber, ensuring precision for physical construction. Finally, the designs were brought to life through pattern making and garment production, translating ANJA’s digital essence into tangible fashion.
This project challenged me to bridge the gap between virtual and physical worlds, creating a collection that captures the spirit of digital fashion while remaining rooted in traditional design principles. It’s a forward-looking approach that highlights the potential of fashion to transcend physical boundaries and redefine how we express identity in a hybrid world.
“MOREK” — Alternate Collection
“Morek” — meaning “a shark” in Sinhala — is a futuristic womenswear A/W collection that dives deep into the raw, untamed beauty of the ocean’s apex predator. Digitally designed and conceptually sculpted, this alternate collection draws bold inspiration from the sharp, sleek power of shark teeth, metallic grills, tooth gems, and the fierce geometry found in the jawline of a shark.
Using advanced tools like Adobe Illustrator, AI Fabricant, and comprehensive range planning, Morek explores the intersection between marine mythology and cyber-future fashion. The designs slash through traditional silhouettes with angular cuts, exaggerated textures, and reflective surfaces, echoing the stealth and elegance of a shark in motion.
The collection shimmers with a palette drawn from the deep — iridescent holographic corals, the soft glow of sea pearls, and opalescent shell hues. These aquatic tones are punctuated by metallic liquid mercury silvers and deep graphite shades, reminiscent of the shark’s jaw — sleek, deadly, and powerful.
Morek envisions a post-aquatic future where fashion becomes armor, elegance merges with edge, and digital craftsmanship meets wild instinct. This is not just a collection; it’s a statement of fierce femininity, digital evolution, and oceanic rebellion — sharp, bold, and unapologetically future-forward
