This is a research project based on the body and my relationship with the concepts of beauty standards, aesthetics and the grotesque. I’m interested in the sweet spot where something is both pretty and ugly, or when something is simultaneously attractive and repulsive.
I explore this with a focus on the female body, with the goal of exposing and questioning those things which society deems grotesque.
I think my draw to this concept came from a defiant urge to unsettle and repel men in this patriarchal society of ours, while clinging onto some desire for acceptance.
