My practice explores the themes of film materiality and is influenced by the repetitive actions of everyday existence in the current COVID-19 restrictions. The work is underpinned by the theories of the everyday that references the work of theorist Michel de Certeau.

I experiment with photographic techniques and work directly onto and altar 35mm and 16mm film.

These experiments draw from materials linked to my everyday routines/regimes such as cosmetics (shampoo, moisturiser, make-up, etc.), household chemicals, (bleach, anti-bacterial products and detergent) and foods stuff, (yogurt, berries, coffee, etc).

By exposing the film to these substances, the natural films emulsions are altered to create unique patterns and visual effects.

Like an alchemist, the process acknowledges the power of the outcome and change. It is at the point of breakdown, that the medium begins to reveal itself.
