My work explores personal connections to place, and how layers of family generations, history, pride, community, and personal experience contribute to these connections.
My own personal identity is inextricably linked to my local rural Gaelic grounds at home in Ballyroan, Co. Laois. Personal objects associated with Gaelic football trigger memories and narratives of games past and present. Through visually documenting the physical grounds I have ultimately used the expressive and raw memory of the surface of the pitch to capture the primal energies of battle in the pursuit of tribal glory.
Hints of parochial colours, trodden and torn earth are imprinted on these objects of glory.
